We were at Kotroman border crossing: Herceg Novi can now be reached in 3.5 hours
The summer season is in full swing, and passengers who can't wait to get to the sea can face headaches waiting at border crossings. Those who plan to spend the summer in Montenegro, more precisely in the Bay of Kotor, are recommended to take the alternative route through the reconstructed Kotroman crossing between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The border crossing is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The manager of the Uzice Customs Office, Aleksandar Maksimovic, told Telegraf.rs that passengers now wait about 10 minutes at that border crossing, compared to up to an hour before the reconstruction.
"Travelers going to Visegrad, Trebinje, as well as to Herceg Novi pass through here. It takes about 3.5 to 4 hours to get to that town in Montenegro from here. This is a good alternative for them," said Maksimovic.
He added that modernization of the Kotroman border crossing itself has contributed to a faster flow of goods and services.
"We received three additional lanes. As far as freight traffic is concerned, most vehicles are Turkish carriers that transit through Serbia and go to Bosnia and Herzegovina," said Maksimovic.
"Three to four customs officers and 10 to 15 police officers work in shifts. There should be more now. Now there are more travelers because of the tourist season," he added.
More than 4.6 million euros were invested in the reconstruction of the border crossing, of which 2.1 million came from European Union pre-accession funds, while about 2.5 million euros were provided through national co-financing through the Customs Administration and the Republic Property Directorate.
In 2021, more than 1.2 million passengers, about 400,000 vehicles, 4,382 buses and 34,181 trucks passed through this crossing.
Trucks have a cargo terminal with 10 parking spaces at their disposal.
This is the shortest way to the Bay of Kotor and it is expected that a lot of people will decide to take this route on their way to the Montenegrin coast.
The Serbian Ministry of Finance said that the Kotroman crossing has been built in accordance with top standards and that it contains everything necessary for smooth functioning of passenger traffic and efficient work of border services.
