Montenegrin Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic says that he spoke with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic twice about economic cooperation and the Open Balkan initiative, which he described as a "child of the Berlin Process."
Speaking about the fundamental agreement with the Serbian Orthodox Church, Abazovic told RTCG that this is an issue between the state and the Church and that he hopes that "the topic will be closed soon."
"There has been progress. We are bringing everything into one status and closing the topic. I hope that this topic will be closed soon," he said, adding that he is trying to establish good relations with all countries in the region.
Abazovic said that Open Balkan and Berlin Process are compatible and imply economic cooperation and work to create a common market so that business conditions are similar or identical.
"Montenegro's crucial interest is in two aspects - political and economic stability," said Abazovic.
He said that Montenegro can choose to be a closed country, but "that will get us nowhere" and added that if Montenegro cannot be compatible with the countries in the region, "what can it expect tomorrow in the European Union."
"More borders, more smuggling. Less borders, less smuggling. We need a unified system," said Abazovic.
Regional cooperation refers to concrete examples, and that is why "we must have open communication with all prime ministers and leaders of the countries in the region," Abazovic also said.
"We asked for imports from Serbia to be liberated, it is not just about meeting our needs, we need to have open channels and there may indeed be shortages at some point. I think that the lack of electricity is a bigger threat than that of food," Abazovic said according to Podgorica based Vijesti.
