The new Slovenian government intends to remove anti-migrant physical barriers from its border with Croatia by the end of the year, and will soon produce an operational plan to this effect, it has been confirmed for STA today.

Removing temporary technical barriers is one of the government's priorities, the Interior Ministry confirmed for the Slovenian news agency, noting that the plan is to implement this by the end of the year and specify operational details by the end of the month.

According to the data of the Slovenian Interior Ministry, Slovenia has 135,372 meters of wood panel wood and 60,595 meters of razor wire fence along its border with Croatia, which cost 23.25 million euros so far, plus another 3.6 million that went towards maintenance.

The installation of the fence began at the height of the migrant crisis in 2015 and there were periodic additions, while razor wire was being replaced with panels.

Just as a public procurement call was needed for its installation, so it will be necessary for the removal, the Slovenian ministry said.

Tatjana Bobnar, interior minister in the new government led by Robert Golob, stated recently in parliament that physical obstacles on the border with Croatia will be replaced with cameras and drones in order to prevent illegal entry of migrants, STA reports.
