Mass arrests in Serbia: Gang smuggled over 200 people, police seize six cars and cash

Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Criminal Police Directorate, the Service for Fighting Organized Crime and the Police Administration in Zajecar have acted on the order of the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime to arrest six people, members of an organized criminal group, in Nis, Dimitrovgrad, and Belgrade.

From March to the end of April this year, they enabled at least 207 unknown persons and 30 citizens of Afghanistan to cross the state border between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Serbia illegally, and then their transit to Belgrade, in order to illegally transfer toward EU countries.

On suspicion that they committed the crime of illegal crossing of the state border and people smuggling N.DJ. (24), B.M. (41), G.C. (55), N.A. (40), DJ.I. (49), and B.A. (42) have been arrested, while criminal complaints have been filed against nine persons for the same criminal offense.

It is suspected that members of the organized criminal group led by N.DJ. committed this crime in order to gain money illegally, which they shared depending on the task they wuold carry out.

The police confiscated 26,350 euros, six cars, 16 phones, SIM cards and two tablets from the suspects. The suspects have been detained for up to 48 hours and will be brought before the competent prosecutor's office with a criminal complaint.
