Minister Momirovic says Pancevo Bridge is safe, and these are 3 things needed in order to demolish it

Minister of Construction, Traffic and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirovic said today that the Pancevo Bridge needs a thorough overhaul, but that the bridge meets all conditions for safe traffic.

Momirovic was replying to journalists who asked about the condition of the Pancevo Bridge, considering that a serious traffic accident occurred on it this week, in which two people died.

"It certainly satisfies all conditions for traffic to be taking place on it. If that was not the case, we wouldn't allow it. It meets all safety and other conditions for traffic to be taking place on it," Momirovic said.

He stressed that there are a lot of bridges in Serbia and that safety comes first, but that accidents also happen in countries that have brought traffic safety at the highest level.

"We are working on reducing the number of accidents and we have made a lot of progress, especially when it comes to child safety. We have invested a lot in traffic safety, and especially in traffic safety near schools and kindergartens," Momirovic stressed.

He said that the Pancevo bridge is specific because it is very important for citizens and for freight traffic.

In order for the bridge to get an alternative, and before a new one is built to replace it, it must be overhauled. Another issue concerns rail traffic - whether it will be taking place on it, or on the future bridge at Ada Huja.
