Serbian Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali is today on a one-day visit to Budapest, where he will discuss the current energy situation and securing gas storage capacities in that country with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto.

"We are leaving for Budapest at dawn for a few hours, where I will meet with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto. These are the last preparations for the meeting, where our main topic will be securing gas storage capacities in Hungary, so that we can prepare for the winter," Mali wrote on Instagram, where he posted a photo from the plane on its way to Budapest.

The minister of finance also said that "one finds out who one's friends are in times of crisis."

Mali and Sijarto will also discuss improving economic cooperation between the two countries, the Ministry of Finance of Serbia announced, while President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said on Monday that Mali and Szijjarto will also discuss renting a storage facility for 300 to 500 million cubic meters of gas.

"If someone cuts off our gas, we cannot withdraw more than five million cubic meters a day from our storage. That is why we need another place from where we could withdraw an additional five million cubic meters," said Vucic.

"It's important that the prime minister of Hungary allows us to store between 300 and 500 million cubic meters of gas," said Vucic, explaining that this would ensure supply for the most difficult three months, even if someone cut off supply lines.
