President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic today toured the works on the construction of the Belgrade Metro.

"It looks impressive," said Vucic.

Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali said that 16 hectares have been completed. The signing of a contract to build in the entire Makis Field is expected in September, he added. Also, the signing of a contract to build the depot itself is expected.

"Mechanization is the most important here, and the value of the works is 57 million euros plus VAT. The depo will be here, this is the basis for everything. The money comes from the budget," said Mali.

Minister of Construction Tomislav Momirovic was among those touring the works today.

The construction of the Belgrade Metro is considered one of the most important infrastructure projects in Serbia in the 21st century. It will be fully automated, without train drivers.

When it gets completely finished, the first metro line will connect Zeleznik and Mirijevo. It will be 21.1 kilometers long and will have 21 stations. The second, 21-kilometer line will connect Bezanija and Mirijevo and will have 23 stations. The third line is Banjica-Bezanija.
