Djere tells Telegraf: Novak is top French Open favorite for me, all our players have good chance for 2nd round
Quite a good season is behind Laslo Djere, and along with Novak Djokovic and Miomir Kecmanovic, he is holding the Serbian flag most firmly on the tennis world tour. His next task is the French Open, and his previous achievements assure us of whether he will continue with good results.
A close defeat by Novak in Belgrade, the third round of Monte Carlo, the semifinals of Marrakech, the quarterfinals of Adelaide... He will try to establish himself on clay as well, and Telegraf had the opportunity in Paris to ask him about his first round opponent, Berankis.
"Well, I can't complain about the draw, but this is a Grand Slam, there are no easy opponents here. However, since I am not seeded, I think this is perfectly fine for me. On clay, it seems to me that I played once against Berankis and was better," Djere told the Telegraf.
All our other players also learned who their opponents are - Djokovic will play against Nishioka, Kecmanovic against Etcheverry, Lajovic against Baez, and Krajinovic against Opelka.
"I think each of us has a chance. What's more, I think each of us has a good chance. Well, now, Filip (Krajinovic) may have fared the worst because he drew Opelka who is seeded. But, again, if he must play agaist him, it's better to do it on clay than on some fast surface."
There's a lot of talk about the favorites and chances at this French Open, and a narrow triangle has been created consisting of Novak, Rafael Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz. Djere also believes that the young Spaniard, the way he plays, has a chance to disrupt the tennis world order.
"I have not played against him, but we did train last year. I haven't watched him this year, since he has had such great results, I have only watched him on television, but I think he's in great shape and he's certainly one of the favorites."
However, as far as his own opinion goes, Djere things that Djokovic is the one whose hands are the closest to lifting the second trophy of the Grand Slam season, and he explained why this is so.
"As for Nadal, I don't think he's in the best physical shape, so Novak is my favorite," concluded Djere.
