Brnabic in favor of mandatory military service: "There will be even stronger pressure to impose sanctions"
She touched on the criticism of the opposition regarding the economic measures introduced by the Government
Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic said last night that there will be even stronger pressure on Serbia to impose sanctions against Russia in the coming period.
Brnabic told TV Pink that there is great interest from the West in why Serbia is not imposing sanctions against Russia, and stressed that in the coming period, the pressure on Serbia to do so would grow stronger.
"There is a huge interest and imposing of several topics, one of which is why Serbia is the only country (in Europe) that has not joined sanctions against Russia," said Brnabic.
She stressed that it will be increasingly difficult for Serbia in the coming period, but that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic is "playing" the diplomatic game in an incredible way, and that he uses his knowledge of history and law during meetings, so it is difficult to argue against him.
Brnabic said that the statement made by Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding Kosovo further aggravates the situation for Serbia, and that it is incredible how much Putin, as she said, is imitating everything that the West has done in the 90s in the case of Serbia and Kosovo.
Brnabic stressed that Serbia must fight for international law because it protects the country's interests.
"We as a country are trying to stick to international law with all our might, that makes us different than others," said Brnabic.
She touched on the criticism of the opposition regarding the economic measures introduced by the Government, stressing that no matter how much they ridicule and criticize, the state has shown that it knows how to fight in a time of crisis.
"No matter how much they laugh, we are always a step or two ahead for the sake of our citizens. It will be difficult, but I think we have shown that we know how to fight in a time of crisis," said Brnabic.
Brnabic: I am in favor of mandatory military service
Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic said last night, regarding the proposal to reintroduce 90-day mandatory military service in Serbia, that detailed analyses should be done and it should be understood how much that would cost.
"A cost analysis needs to be done, but I must say that I am in favor of (mandatory) military service, especially under such complex circumstances in the world, which I do not believe will soon go back to normal," Brnabic told TV Pink.
She compared the situation with EU countries.
"Many EU countries, which are known for their liberalism, have mandatory military service. Some have abolished and then reinstated it, like Lithuania. In Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Switzerland, Austria, Cyprus, Greece, Norway, military service is mandatory. Essentially, it is an investment in the state and national security, and our policy is always to preserve peace and security," said Brnabic.
