Brnabic: US officials did not issue ultimatums to Serbia
Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said that US officials who recently visited Belgrade did not issue ultimatums to Serbia regarding the introduction of sanctions against Russia. She added that "no one is any longer" coming to Belgrade with blackmail and threats.
"I have not heard that since 2017, when I became prime minister. We and the United States have different views on sanctions against Russia, and senators and Karen Donfried asked about it, and our answer is principled and in accordance with the best interests of our country, people and economy," the prime minister told Happy TV.
She assessed that the frequent visits of American officials to Serbia show the greater presence of the United States in the Western Balkans and their fear that any crisis from Eastern Europe will spill over into the region.
"Our common interest is to preserve peace and stability in the Western Balkans. I think we really have friendly relations with the United States, although we do not agree on some key issues such as the status of Kosovo. When American officials were coming to Serbia earlier, it looked like they were rubbing our noses in it, concerning Kosovo, and now they show a dose of respect there as well," said Brnabic.
She added that Belgrade and Washington agree that it is necessary to continue the dialogue with Pristina as soon as possible.
"We also agree that Pristina was not completely or at all sincere in its intention to conduct dialogue," the prime minister said, N1 reported.
