Canyon that made Serbia famous around the world: Fairy-tale meanders of Uvac are most beautiful in spring
Halfway between Belgrade and Bar, in the southwestern part of Serbia, is the Uvac Special Nature Reserve, the photos of whose meanders have reached the front pages of the world's most prestigious tourist magazines.
The canyon of the Uvac River, as well as the system of caves and the richness of flora and fauna have ensured that this part of Serbia has been under state protection since 1971.
Although hiking is the best way to get to know the natural beauties of Uvac and see the trapped meanders from one of the many observation decks in this nature reserve, tourists are more interested in cruises on Lake Uvac, as well as visiting the famous Ice Cave whose decorations are up to 10 meters tall.
The four-hour tour can also be combined, including cruising and walking to the Veliki Vrh observation deck, which offers a spectacular view of the natural beauty of this canyon.
The most beautiful view, however, is from the Molitva lookout, because the trail is well maintained and leads to a fenced wooden platform at 1,247 meters above sea level, from which the view spreads across the emerald green color of the water and meanders a hundred meters high.
The special nature reserve Uvac is located in the territory of the municipality of Nova Varos, whose tourist potentials, precisely because of the natural beauty, are growing year to year.
