Production of a new car begins in Kragujevac: "A new era for Serbia starting today"
From 2024, the production of a new model will begin in the Kragujevac factory. The value of the investment is 190 million euros.
This is the outcome of a meeting with the management of the company Stellantis, led by CEO Carlos Tavares.
"Today we are starting a new era of investments in our country," Vucic said after the meeting. As he announced, the signed contract with Fiat means that the production of a modern electric car will start in Kragujevac.
"It will be intended for the middle class," stated Vucic and added that "what we agreed with Stellantis today, this is about Fiat, Peugeot and Chrysler, is that the era of financing e-vehicles in Kragujevac for us starts today".
According to Vucic, Stellantis is one of the four largest car manufacturers in the world. "I can only tell you that the car will be intended for the middle class," said Vucic, adding that he must not reveal the name or the model.
"Of the 75 e-vehicle models that Stellantis will make, 50 will be produced in Europe," said Tavares.
The meeting, which was also attended by Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, started at around 8:30 in the building of the Presidency in Belgrade.
A contract has been signed with the company Stellantis today, and Tavares said that he was honored to be in Serbia, where he could announce a contract with Serbia - the contract means "moving forward," he said.
Stellantis is a multinational car manufacturing corporation formed in 2021 based on the merger of the Italian-American conglomerate Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the French PSA group.
It has been mentioned publicly for a while that Fiat could start the production of a new car model in Serbia.
