From tomorrow until May 3, increased controls on the roads: These 6 things could spoil your holidays
Members of the Ministry of the Interior, Traffic Police Administration, will conduct an action of intensified control of traffic participants from April 21 until May 3 in order to preserve traffic safety during the upcoming Orthodox Easter and May Day holidays in Serbia, when an increased number of vehicles is expected on the roads.
The action will be aimed at detecting the most serious violations, such as speeding, improper overtaking, driving under the influence of alcohol or psychoactive substances, not using a seat belt and improper use of phones while driving.
Also, due to the increased number of motorcycles and mopeds on the roads, the police will control these participants in traffic as well.
Each controlled driver will be tested for alcohol, and when stopping any vehicle that exceeds the speed limit, it will be checked whether drivers and passengers are wearing a seat belt.
"In 2021, in three holiday says, 10 people were killed and 300 were injured in traffic. We stress that driving under the influence of alcohol is the most common factor leading to traffic accidents during the holidays, which is confirmed by the fact that drivers under the influence of alcohol participated in as many as 53 traffic accidents last year," said Aleksandar Radenkovic from the Traffic Police Administration.
The Ministry of the Interior appeals on all citizens to respect traffic rules and to contribute to traffic safety on the roads during the holidays by behaving responsibly.
