Director of NP Djerdap detained: He built a weekend home in the national park
On April 18, the pre-trial judge of the Higher Court in Belgrade - the Special Department for Organized Crime made a decision to remand Lazar Mitrovic in custody for up to 30 days due to special circumstances indicating that he would obstruct the proceedings by influencing witnesses.
By the order to carry out an investigation issued by the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime, Lazar Mitrovic is suspected of committing two criminal acts of abuse of office.
After several months of pre-investigative procedure, the acting director of the Djerdap National Park Lazar Mitrovic was arrest on suspicion that he abused his official position, the Prosecutor's Office announced.
As stated, after he was questioned, the Prosecutor's Office proposed to the court to order Mitrovic detained.
The statement adds that based on the evidence gathered in the pre-investigative procedure, an order was issued to conduct an investigation against Mitrovic due to a well-founded suspicion that he committed several criminal acts, abusing his official position in connection with selling lumber outside the legal regulation, and illegally building a weekend house in the zone of the national park, where construction is prohibited, as well as that he then illegally influenced the legalization of this structure.
