"In November of this year, we will start the construction of the depot, and in March next year, we will start the construction of access roads," said Vesic

Deputy Mayor of Belgrade Goran Vesic toured the Belgrade Metro construction sites in Makis and assessed that works are being carried out faster than planned, announcing at the same time that several contracts important for the project will be signed in the coming period.

Vesic said that the formation of an embankment in Makisko Polje is in progress, and that sand will be poured on an area of more than 75 hectares.

"So far, we have cleared about 11 hectares of land, filled up more than 5.5 hectares. The works are being carried out ahead of the established dynamics to complete the embankment," said Vesic.

The deputy mayor announced that several contracts of importance for the construction of the Metro will be signed in the coming period, and stated that a contract concerning access roads will be signed in May.

He added that the roads will be several kilometers long, a boulevard type with bike paths and sidewalks, so that citizens from other parts of Belgrade can come to the departing station of the future Metro.

Vesic said that two contracts would be signed during the summer, for the construction of the first Metro line and for the construction of a depot.

"In November of this year, we will start the construction of the depot, and in March next year, we will start the construction of access roads," said Vesic.

He said that the first Metro stations are planned to be built in September 2023, and that 16 stations have already been designed. During the next year, says Vesic, two machines for drilling tunnels will arrive from China, when those works will begin.

"Everything will be ready for completing the first line of the Metro in 2028, the second in 2030, to make our dream of 50 years to have a metro come true. I am happy that we are working on this project with Mostogradnja, Millennium, Power China," said Vesic.

The director of Mostogradnja ING, Goran Petrovic, said that several phases of works to build the Metro have been completed so far, and that they are continuing in full intensity.

"So far, bushes and trees have been cleared on 11 hectares. In the first half of May, we will already start to transport and install Danube sand. We've come out of a long winter period, we worked all the time, respecting technical conditions above all, considering that this project is of national importance, quality must not be under the question mark," said Petrovic.
