The winning list of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and its coalition partner, the Alliance of Vojvodina Hungarians, should form the future government at the state level, said SNS Vice President and Novi Sad Mayor Milos Vucevic, adding that "everything else" is a matter of future inter-party talks.

In an interview with Novosti, Vucevic stressed that Serbia will have a strong government which, he says, will be able to respond to all future challenges, continue the development and modernization of the state and foster relations with neighbors and traditional friends.

Summarizing the results of the recent elections, Vucevic stressed that there was a huge turnout, and that Aleksandar Vucic achieved a historic victory.

"The SNS has won by far the most votes in the parliamentary elections and is the absolute winner with 120 seats. The next list below ours has three and a half times fewer mandates. These are the facts," said Vucevic and added that the SNS is not completely satisfied, because it had "raised the bar extremely high."

He said that every fraction of a percent less than the SNS expected would be analyzed.

Asked who in the SNS bears the greatest responsibility for the big difference in the number of votes received by Vucic as a presidential candidate, and those that the SNS parliamentary elections list won, he said that the party is proud of the president's result.

Vucevic also referred to the SPS election campaign, which he said was led by "lighting patriotic fire" during the Ukrainian crisis, by which the party "profited from the pro-Russian sentiment."

"I didn't avoid talking about it publicly. I did not like the campaign led by the Socialists," Vucevic stressed, adding that the Socialists were "handing out positions before the elections."

He said that the Socialists may have managed to convince their voters of the pre-election slogan, "Prime Minister Dacic," but that they certainly didn't convince him.

Asked how he views remarks that the SPS has "forced the SNS into a corner" to take them as partners at the state level, because The SNS cannot form the city government in Belgrade without them, Vucevic said that he does not think that the SNS has cornered anyone.

"We are the absolute winners of the elections in Belgrade. Voting will be repeated at several polling stations, and inter-party talks are upcoming. I see that on the 'other side' there are councilors who will not agree with the Djilas opposition. There is still a lot of time for making the final conclusions, but I have no doubt that it will be as the majority of Belgraders demonstated in the elections," said Vucevic.

He also said that he proposed to hold new elections in the fall, because he could no longer listen to the "post-election hysteria," the rewriting of election promises given to citizens, as well as the challenging the legitimacy of the winner - the SNS, which won 120 seats.

"I'm not surprised that President Vucic said he is not in favor of that and that it is not good for the state at this moment, to have months of a government in a technical mandate," Vucevic added.
