Cape Verdean Judicial Police Director Ricardo Goncalves told the media that 5.6 tons of drugs were seized in the port of Praia, and that the case files are confidential

Two Montenegrin citizens were arrested along with five Brazilians for smuggling 5,668 kilograms of cocaine on a fishing ship, the police in Cape Verde said.

Cape Verdean Judicial Police Director Ricardo Goncalves told the media that 5.6 tons of drugs were seiezed in the port of Praia, and that the case files are confidential.

Goncalves said that the operation took place on the high seas, starting on April 1. He said that it was carried out by the police, through the Central Department for Investigations into Narcotics Trafficking.

"We also cooperated with the Federal Police of Brazil, the Anti-Drug Administration, the US Navy and the National Crime Agency of the United Kingdom," Goncalves added.

As of Wednesday morning, a US Navy ship in the service of the African command of US forces has been anchored near the city of Praia.

According to Podgorica based media, the director of the national police was not taking journalists' questions, so he did not clarify other details about the operation, the destination or the flag of the fishing ship from Brazil that was transporting cocaine, or the names of those arrested.
