Vucic in his first address after getting reelected as Serbian president: I received 2.245 million votes
The leader of the Progressives (SNS) and the presidential candidate of that party, Aleksandar Vucic, said late last night that he received 2.245 million votes, which is far more than presidential candidates in Serbia received in the first round in the past.
"I am proud of the fact that I managed to do something that no one has ever succeeded in doing in Serbia," said Vucic, adding that Tomislav Nikolic and Boris Tadic had around 950,000 and 850,000 votes in the first round of the presidential elections they took part in.
He said this is a big difference, and added:
"It also shows that, of which I am unusually proud of, I will probably be the Serbian who has been in power in our country for the longest, after Nikola Pasic."
Vucic said that he was not saying it to brag about that fact, but because he was proud of the people whose trust enabled him to do so.
He also thanked our people in Kosovo and Metohija and in the Serb Republic (RS) and added that he received more than 90 percent of the votes from the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, and almost 90 percent of the votes from those who had the right to vote in the RS.
He stressed that the SNS must make effort to do many more important things.
He said that the SNS list and that led by Dragan Djilas, because of their fierce mutual debates, suffered blows from those who were on the sidelines and who gained points from a comfortable position.
"When it becomes clear who will form the government, then it will be clear who is the winner or the loser," Vucic stressed.
He said that he wants to continue the modernization of our country, to continue to take care of attracting foreign direct investments, to preserve peace and stability.
"I will make sure that we form a government that will allow Serbia ro continue to move in that direction, and we are facing numerous challenges," Vucic said.
He stated that the most important thing for Serbia is to have good relations in the region and to continue on its European path, but without damaging good relations with its traditional friends. Vucic said that the government will not ingratiate itself to the voters at any cost, but will do serious and responsible work, and let the people judge on the deeds.
