Another free guided tour of New Cemetery In Belgrade to take place on Sunday, April 3
Organized, guided tours of cemeteries in Europe are not new, these events date back to the beginning of the 20th century, when guided tours were organized through cemeteries in Genoa and in Paris. Belgrade's New Cemetery, as one of the most beautiful cemeteries in this part of Europe, has been a member of the Association of Significant Cemeteries in Europe (ASCE) since 2004 and an integral part of the European Cemeteries Route since 2010, and represents a space of unforgettable stories and an open testimony of history.
The public company JKP Pogrebne Usluge Beograd (Funeral Services Belgrade) is opening a new season of guided tours of the New Cemetery on Sunday, April 3, starting at 11 am, with a thematic tour entitled: "They were creating with pen and soul - 'As long as there is darkness, there will be dawn'," (the story of poets and writers).
On Sunday, April 3 - as part of the rich treasure of the New Cemetery and the memory of the lives preserved in its alleys and stone witnesses of remembrance, stories will be singled out about rebels of the spirit, eternal Odysseys, people about whom much has been written, but never enough because some stories are like just like lives, unfinished.
This tour is dedicated to writers and poets of the 20th century, creators of the spirit, people who paved the way to modernity with their ideas and works. Those great spirits of a new era will be remembered, who, bringing in their own soul and with deep emotion, permeated the destiny of humans and the world and created works that outgrew these spaces, as well as the time in which they were created.
As part of this week's walk, participants will remember stories about writers who were also diplomats, about the last duel fought in our country, about a famous love triangle, but also stories about a social environment envious of those who rise above average.
