This is the youngest miner who died this morning: I heard sirens and I knew tragedy happened, says his brother
Eight miners were killed in the accident in the mine that happened this morning in the coal mine Soko near Sokobanja. 18 more were injured, the Ministry of Mining and Energy has confirmed. The youngest was 31 years old, and the oldest was 59.
The 31-year-old was Petar Petrovic, a native of Dugo Polje near Sokobanja. We found his brother Miroslav at home.
"As soon as I heard the sirens, I knew what had happened. I hoped that my brother, who was in the third shift, was not among the victims," says Miroslav.
The worst news was confirmed to Mirosava by his other brother Stojan, who also works in the mine.
"Stojan came to replace our brother Petar and found out that he had died," says Miroslav.
Miners Darko Zlatkovic (43), Nenad Trivunac (37), Radovan Grujic (47), Petar Petrovic (31), Branko Cokorilo (56), Branislav Zlatanovic (55), Bratislav Zivkovic (59) and Bojan Stajic (34) died in the accident.
Sasa Spasic, director of Public Company PEU Resavica, said that the mining accident in the pit of the Soko mine happened shortly after four o'clock in the morning in the part of the deposit in the eastern field of the mine, in the third shift, during regular coal mining works.
