In an interview for today's Politika, Vucic stressed that due to the situation with Ukraine, it will be "very difficult, whoever wins the elections, but it is our job to fight and always get the best we can for our country."

He assessed that neither peace nor stability have been given once and for all, that people take them for granted, and in order to preserve them, they must be fought for every day.

"That is why a smart, responsible and serious policy is needed, that is why I insist not only on peace and stability, but also on seriousness, that is why I say that elections are not a game and that the state is not a toy, it's important to have responsible people whose decisions don't have to be liked by everybody all the time, but they will always be in the function of achieving the most important goals and preserving peace and stability," said Vucic.

Regarding the accusations that he is moving Serbia away from the European Union (EU) and the opinion that it would be better to harmonize foreign policy with the EU instead of "procuring canned goods and scaring people," Vucic said that regardless of whether he scares someone or not, those cans mean life to Serbia.

"You don't see queues either for cans in Serbia, precisely because we bought them, or for flour, cooking oil or anything else, there is no pressure of increased shopping, no empty shelves, like in many other countries. We have enough of everything. If you think that it is not your job to provide all that, but to pursue an abstract policy that has nothing to do with reality, that I don't understand, and let people make their own conclusions," he replied.

Speaking about his announced stepping down as the leader of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), he said that he would be there during the election of the government and, as much as possible, influence its shape, and that he would then step down.

"Ten years at the helm of the party is a long time, it's a period in which the SNS has not lost anywhere, that's unbelievable and it's time for some others to dedicate themselves to it. That would also be 15 years in power, only Baja (Nikola) Pasic, counting elected officials, was in power for longer. It's more than enough to leave a mark, to leave to the people what you have done, and then it's time for those who have more physical strength, I don't think they have more energy and passion, but I am no longer young," said Vucic.

He added that it is better for someone else to come in, and that the party will make sure to choose good leadership made up of honest and responsible people.

When it comes to the personnel, he stressed that he is not someone who is not used to negative surprises, but that he believes in people and in his choices.

He cited as an example that he was satisfied with Ana Brnabic, although, as he said, most of Serbia was against.

"It seems to me that the most important thing is what we have done together. We have Sinisa Mali, who is an extraordinary minister of finance, and several other exceptional ministers that we can count on in the years ahead," said Aleksandar Vucic.
