First gold medal from Belgrade World Championships goes to Cuba: Martinez is the best in the triple jump event
Cuban track and field athlete Lazaro Martinez is the first participant in the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade to win the top medal.
He achieved a result of 17.64 meters in the triple jump event and thus won the gold medal.
Behind Martinez were Pedro Picardo from Portugal with a leap of 17.46 meters and US athlete Donald Scott who jumped 17.21 meters.
The men's triple jump has so far been the only final held on the first day, and by the end of Friday, four more finals await us in the evening session.
