Bislimi: We are not negotiating about recognition from Serbia, but about general agreement

Pristina's chief negotiator in the dialogue with Belgrade Besnik Bislimi says that they are not negotiating about recognition with Serbia, but about a general agreement at the center of which is mutual recognition, because the aspiration is to normalize relations.

"We are not negotiating recognition, but a general agreement with Serbia, at the center of which is recognition, because we strive to normalize relations with a neighboring country," he said.

In a statement for Rajonipress, Bislimi stressed that the timing of the end of the dialogue does not depend only on so-called Kosovo, as well as that he will not sign any agreement with Serbia that is contrary to the interests of Kosovo.

"I cannot judge the duration of the dialogue, but it would be ideal to end this long and arduous journey within two years. Even Lajcak is interested in speeding up the dialogue process, and remember that there are few EU diplomats who enjoy more respect than Lajcak, and I am happy that Lajcak's expectations regarding the epilogue of the dialogue are close to ours. We also don't see any differences in relation to (US envoy) Gabriel Escobar, who is directly involved in the dialogue process," said Bislimi.

"Otherwise, I will not sign any document that is not fair and acceptable to the state of Kosovo. I do not even have the authority to sign because the prime minister and the Assembly are the highest bodies on this issue," said Bislimi.

Speaking about the European Union's promises regarding visa liberalization, Besnik Bislimi said that Kosovo has met the criteria and obligations.

"I think that there is positive news for Kosovo and that we are receiving a positive mark in the fight against crime and corruption from the international community. I'm an optimist and I believe in the European Union," Bislimi added.
