World Athletics top man delighted with Belgrade: "You will soon be candidates for World Outdoor Championships"

Everything is ready for the start of the World Athletics Indoor Championships, which officially begins on Friday, March 18 and will last until March 20 in Belgrade, Serbia.

The best track and field athletes from around the world, who arrived in Belgrade for the championship, held training sessions in the Belgrade Arena this morning, which was full of competitors who held the last preparations before the competition starts.

On the eve of the beginning of the championships, a press conference was held in the Arena, where the president of the World Athletics, Sebastian Coe, addressed reporters and did not hide his enthusiasm about the organization of the event.

"First of all, thank you for being with us, above all the athletes. I know how focused they are before the competition, this is the World Championships, so I am happy that they took the time to be with us here. I am very excited, it is amazing that we were last in Birmingham in 2018, we know why we waited so long. The world has gone through complicated times, I am happy to be here, that sport has shown that it heals, that it can unite so many nations together. I am happy that this is the first time since Doha that we have a live audience.

It will be a big difference for athletes, this was not the factor that hindered them, but the possibility for World Athletics to work in presenting, bringing athletics closer to people is very important. Of course, this is best seen at the World Athletics Indoor Championships.

I am very grateful for the work of the local committee, I am happy to be in the company of Veselin Jevrosimovic, his ambition was to convince Serbian politicians to organize this, he was a pole vaulter, he promoted this sport in Serbia, investments are huge and I know that the day when Serbia will ask to organize the World Outdoor Championships will not be far off. This is a part of the world that understands athletics, its importance in society. I know that in the next few days we will be honored with great competitions and clashes. Thank you for taking the time to promote sports and to you Veselin for continuously promoting it," said Sebastian Coe.
