Office for Kosovo and Metohija: New ethnically motivated incidents aim to drive Serbs from centuries-old homes
This morning, graffiti glorifying the so-called KLA ("Kosovo Liberation Army," Albanian: UCK), appeared on four Serb homes in the ethnically mixed village of Suvi Do near Lipljan, the Office for Kosovo and Metohija has announced.
The symbols of the terrorist organization were painted on the houses of Ljubinka Grbusic, Nebojsa Moraca, as well as of Milos and Milenko Dukic, who are very upset by this form of intimidation, while the threatening messages have caused other Serbs in this village to worry.
This morning, President of the Provisional Authority of the Municipality of Lipljan Milan Joksimovic visited the families and talked to them about this incident, but also about other challenges they are facing.
The director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, Petar Petkovic, pointed out that this is a new case in a series of ethnically motivated incidents in the area of Kosovo and Metohija (Kosmet), the goal of which is to expel Serbs from their centuries-old homes.
He also stated that the latest series of hate messages is another indicator of growing tensions in the area of Kosovo and Metohija, which are generated by Albin Kurti's policy of hatred and provocation.
"Glorification of a terrorist organization whose leaders are on trial in The Hague for monstrous crimes committed against Serbs, on the eve of the anniversary of the March Pogrom, clearly shows that there is no peaceful atmosphere for Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija even today" said Petar Petkovic.
According to him, such and similar attacks on Serbs, their property, and facilities of the Serbian Orthodox Church are a direct consequence of Kurti's militant statements in which he targets Serbs almost every day, making legitimate targets out of them.
Petkovic stressed that this is a horrifying reality in which Serbs live every day in Kosovo and Metohija, especially south of the Ibar River, and to which no international official is reacting.
"That is why we will never stop insisting that Kosovo and Metohija should be a safe place for Serbs to live, that international representatives and politicians in Pristina should not turn a blind eye to attacks against Serbs and that such actions by extremists should be adequately sanctioned," Petkovic said.
