Vucic speaks from Madrid: Spain will not recognize Kosovo, Serbia to present its position on Ukraine
Speaking from Spain, President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said that everything that was agreed on Wednesday is of exceptional importance for our Army. He stressed that Spain will not recognize Kosovo as independent and thanked that country for its support.
"In the conversation with the king, but also with (PM) Sanchez, it was clear that Spain will not recognize Kosovo's independence. We spoke about many details that I would not burden citizens with," said Vucic.
He explained that Serbia will always be able to count on Spain, and that it is very important for Serbia, adding that good relations will continue to be fostered. The president added that Serbia is procuring transport planes from that country.
Respect for international law is important
"We also talked about Ukraine, of course, I stressed the importance of respecting international law, but I also pointed out to some instances when it was not respected. Some people want Serbia to give in and give up on everything it has built, but that will not happen. We are deciding on our own destiny. As for those who have no better thing to do than attack Serbia, my response is, I'm not interested," said Vucic.
Vucic revealed on Wednesday that the previous night, he spoke with Serbia's prime minister, and added that Serbia will come out with the details regarding the situation in Ukraine in the following 48 hours.
We remember 1999 well
"Serbia remembers 1999 well, when those whose mouths are today full of respecting rights did not think so when it came to our country," said Vucic.
"We are facing a struggle to preserve our position and peace in the region, and have no intention of being a part of broader movements," the president added.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic was on Wednesday on a working visit to Spain, where he had separate meetings with King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
"Ceremonial welcome in honor of the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, who is on a one-day working visit to the Kingdom of Spain, and a meeting with the King of Spain, Felipe VI," said a post on the Instagram account "buducnostsrbijeav".
According to Vucic's cabinet, the president would attend the signing of the agreement on the purchase of two Casa C-295 transport planes manufacuted by Airbus.
On the eve of his trip to Madrid, Vucic announced that he would invite King Felipe and Prime Minister Sanchez to visit Serbia.
"Serbian and Spanish officials meet rarely, they have not been in Belgrade in 50 years. I will invite King Felipe VI and Prime Minister Sanchez to visit Serbia, they are sincere friends of our country and that is very important to us," said the president.
