Genocide Victims Museum in Belgrade: EU and UN support for glorification of war crimes in Kosovo is concerning

The Museum of Genocide Victims has welcomed the decision to suspend the process of carrying out protective measures on the house of war criminal Xhafer Ibrahim Deva in Kosovska Mitrovica and at the same time expressed concern over the fact that the procedure took place under the auspices of the UNDP, the European Union and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of so-called Kosovo.

The museum points out to the "worrying trend" of cooperation between representatives of certain international and interstate organizations with so-called Provisional Authorities in Pristina on the glorification of World War II-era war criminals in Kosovo and Metohija.

The institution said in a statement that cooperation between the UNDP, the EU and the provisional authorities in Pristina in the attempt to rebuild the house of Xhafer Ibrahim Deva is not an isolated case and reminds that EU funds were previously used to renovate the building of the Cultural Center in Kosovska Mitrovica, named after war criminal Rexhep Mitrovica.

It is added that the EU set aside 115,784.60 euros for that purpose, while the project was realized by the UNDP.

The museum stressed that the support of EU and UNDP representatives to Pristina in order to glorify the most notorious war criminals who committed crimes against Serbs, Jews, Roma, as well as other non-Albanians in Kosovo and Metohija during World War II is an inadmissible process that requires public condemnation by the relevant domestic and international public, institutions and organizations.

The Museum of Victims of Genocide expects UNDP and EU missions in Kosovo and Metohija to say why they support "revisionist and anti-civilization, undemocratic and disgraceful actions of so-called temporary authorities in Pristina" and whether they had been aware that they were supporting the reconstruction of a cultural institution named after a war criminal, Rexhep Mitrovica.

"Do they, with their persistent support for the glorification of war criminals, perhaps want to announce that war crimes committed against Serbs, Jews, Roma and other non-Albanians in the territory of AP (Autonomous Province) Kosovo and Metohija during World War II are not crimes but a desirable form of behavior toward members of peoples and social groups who are clearly not desirable in the area," asked the Museum of Genocide Victims.

It is stressed that such actions are causing growing concern in our country, and announced that the Museum will initiate meetings with representatives of the EU and the UNDP in order to discuss these actions through direct communication.
