First foreign Red Star captain in history: "This is my second home, I won't speak badly about Partizan fans"

Mitchell Donald, a Dutch footballer who spent three years wearing a Red Star jersey and during that time became the club's captain, the first foreigner, spoke about his time in Belgrade, the relationship with Partizan fans, but also the reason for leaving Red Star.

During the time spent at the club, Donald won two titles, and described Red Star as his second home.

"Red Star is really like my second home, it was great there. I became the first foreign captain in the history of the club, which is certainly a huge honor. I can't even describe how much love my family felt while I was there," said Donald.

He also spoke about the fans from the opposite camp, in a positive context.

"Partizan fans never bothered me. Yes, they curse you during the game, but not outside of it. They would approach me and say, 'We don't love Red Star, but we respect you as a person'. I will never say anything bad about Partizan fans."

He says that he left Red Star in order to advance his career, but also because of the financial offer, which was much better.

"Although it was really painful for me to leave, because it was my second home, I had a good and promising offer from Turkey. And I did not regret it. It was time to take it a step further and the Turkish league was great, and financially I got much better conditions."
