Serbian citizen reportedly left note to his wife written in his blood: New details of Genoa drug ship mystery
The prosecutor's office in Genoa and the Italian police are continuing with the investigation into the mysterious death of a Serbian sailor, who was found dead with a slit throat on the ship MSC Adelaide. He allegedly wrote a message to his wife using his own blood before dying.
He was found dead hours after the police seized more than 400 kilograms of cocaine in a container transported by the ship.
"At this moment, there is no connection between the death of the sailor, which we are still investigating, and the large seizure of drugs," said the acting chief prosecutor Francesco Pinto.
It is currently suspected that the sailor, a citizen of Serbia who was about 50 years old, committed suicide.
Italian media report that a colleague found him alive with a razor in his hand and raised the alarm. He allegedly threw a razor out of the Serbian citizen's hand, which has not yet been found.
The Serbian allegedly also left a note to his wife before dying, written in his own blood on the ship's bulkhead.
An autopsy has been ordered while the investigation into the death continues.
Deputy Prosecutor Eugenia Menichetti inspected the ship this morning, and all 20 crew members will be questioned in the coming days, including the caption, the only Italian citizen on board.
