Marko Kraljevic took care of the appearance of a mountain near Babusnica: The legends of Golemi Stol
At an altitude of 1,328 meters, above Babusnica, lies the mountain Golemi Stol ("Big Table" in Serbian), which in local jargon is also called Stolski Kamik.
It gained great popularity thanks to the artists who painted it, inspired by the unusual shape.
In recent years, on social networks, especially on Instagram, Golemi Stol has been one of the mountains that is most often photographed and shared, again for the same reason - it looks like a natural table that rises mightily above the valley.
There are numerous legends about the origin of the mountain and its name, and in each of them the main hero is Marko Kraljevic, a Serbian medieval ruler who is often assigned superhuman powers in folk stories.
Thus, in the villages around Babusnica, it is believed that the mountain is flat like a table because Marko Kraljevic stepped on it to threw a stone on another mountain.
According to another legend, Marko Kraljevic jumped from a nearby hill onto Golemi Stol and flattened it.
And a third says that Marko Kraljevic set out with his spoils and chose this part of Serbia to sit down and rest. But, the sack got torn, and a small part of the loot fell near Babusnica, and so the Golemi Stol mountain was formed.
One can only imagine how much loot Marko Kraljevic was carrying and how strong he really was, if Golemi Stol was only a small part of it...
