Croats are just showing what Tesla's image will look like on their coins: We reveal whether Serbia will react
The Croats have decided that the image of Nikola Tesla will definitely be on their euro coins, and today the design has been presented. On all coins of the Croatian euro, the base will be the "checkerboard," the map of Croatia will be on the two euro coin, the weasel (Croatian "kuna") on the one euro coin, Nikola Tesla on the 50, 20 and 10 cent coins, and a Glagolitic motif on the five, two and one cent coins.
At today's meeting of the National Council for the Euro, the selected designs of the national side of the Croatian euro and cent coins have been presented. The session is chaired by Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, and statements are expected later.
Earlier, Plenkovic spoke in reaction to our article that cited representatives of the National Bank of Serbia, who for the first time stressed there will be a reaction and that measures will be taken if the image of Nikola Tesla is put on Croatian coins. (Tesla was an ethnic Serb born in Austria-Hungary, in what is today Croatia.)
"When Croatia adopts the euro the design on the coins will be the motifs that will represent Croatia," Plenkovic said at the beginning of the meeting.
"The image of Nikola Tesla received the most votes. The selected motifs are the checkerboard, the geographical map, the kuna, Nikola Tesla and the Glagolitic script," he said.
The top-ranked proposals have also accepted by the Council of the Union, said the prime minister and congratulated the authors Ivan Sivak, Stjepan Pranjkovic, Ivan Domagoj Racic and Maja Skripelj.
Gundulic's verse "Oh beautiful, oh dear, oh sweet freedom" will be engraved on the two-euro coin.

Frka Petesic presented the design of the coins and greeted the author Ivan Sivak, who was present at the session.
"The National Bank of Serbia (NBS) is of the opinion that the possible use of the image of Nikola Tesla on the national side of the euro coin, if Croatia becomes a member of the Eurozone in the coming period, would represent appropriation of the cultural and scientific heritage of the Serbian people, considering that it is indesputable that the famous scientist during his life identified as a Serb by heritage and origin. In this regard, it is quite certain that appropriate actions will be taken with the competent EU institutions in order to point out to the inappropriateness of such a proposal," Telegraf Biznis was told by the NBS.
