The sporting event of the year in the capital of Serbia is slowly but surely approaching. Belgrade will host the World Indoor Athletics Championship from March 18 to 20, which will be held in the magnificent Stark Arena. The tickets are already on sale and there is no doubt that residents of our biggest city will be able to enjoy a great sporting event.

Preparations for the competition are already underway, while in the interior of the Arenav venue work is being done on laying the ground and all the accompanying instruments and devices necessary for the competition itself. Organizers assure us that a great image will be sent to the world, and the arrival of the biggest athletic stars on the planet has been announced.

All this was the reason for the guest appearance of President of the Serbian Athletics Federation Mr. Veselin Jevrosimovic in the Jutro show on TV Prva, where he spoke about how progress is made with the organization of the championship, what are challenges are, but also what and when to expect in the Stark Arena.

"It's the most complicated technical project ever in the Arena, until now it was only carried on in 2017, when the European Athletics Championship was organized, which was rated as the best organized championship ever. Now we are lucky to be the organizers of the World Cup in March... The construction rises to 4 meters and part of the stands is being cut out. We have been in the Arena for more than three months, the technical project is complex and needs be carried out. 60,000 screws will be installed," Jevrosimovic said at the beginning.

He then commented on the way in which the epidemiological measures will be respected, that is, how the athletes will "cope" with that.

"You know what, we have been under coronavirus for more than two years, there will be three, I think we have a good previous training. All epidemiological conditions required by world athletics will be respected. All athletes will have to bring negative tests and certificates upon entry, and testing will also be performed at the hotels. Everyone will have to be tested."

The arrival of many world athletic stars has been announced.

"Many are coming, almost all the biggest athletic stars on the planet are coming, this is the first big world competition during coronavirus. Everyone announced their arrival, Duplantis, who is the world record holder in pole vault, Yusuf Hasan and many others. Indeed, all the biggest athletic stars will be in Belgrade. It will be a real spectacle ... They announced their arrival 15 days earlier, because then we are also organizing a big rally in the Arena, it will be a dress rehearsal before the World Championships," underlined the president of the Serbian Athletics Federation.

Mr. Jevrosimovic also pointed out how complex it will be to convey a great image to the world through small screens.

"It will look magnificent, it will be a real spectacle. It will be a top sporting competition and a multimedia spectacle. I don't know how well that's known, but athletics is the most difficult sport to broadcast on TV, some nine fields are broadcast simultaneously, there will be over 60 cameras installed in the Arena itself."

The works will be finished in the next 28 days, and in addition to the athletes, a large number of delegates will be present.

"We need to finish all the works before March 1, because it's not just the Arena, but also the small Arena that is being adapted for the warming up of athletes, as well as the entire stretch around the Arena, where tents will be set up. By the way, over 150 countries have already bought TV rights, in addition to athletes, there will be almost 10,000 delegates, sports workers... Belgrade will certainly be the center of the world in March," said Jevremovic.

As for the capacity, it will be reduced due to the coronavirus pandemic, so the president of the Athletics Federation called on the fans to get their tickets as soon as possible.

"The capacity will be 10,000 seats, and 8,000 tickets have been put on sale. I invite everyone who has not yet purchased tickets to do so. Our audience is used to buying tickets just before the very start, but we should avoid having more foreign than domestic fans.

Lastly, he points out that this is the biggest competition ever organized in Serbia.

"The biggest challenge is that we won the chance to organize the championship, we are the smallest country that has ever won it. This will be the biggest championship ever organized in Serbia. After the Olympics, the World Athletics Championships is the biggest competition... We have over 1,000 volunteers, members of the security. It's a huge event and a test for all of us," concluded Mr. Jevremovic.
