Borrell on stalled Belgrade-Pristina dialogue: "We're working on restart, especially with Kosovo"
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said today after the sixth meeting of the EU-Serbia Stabilization and Association Council that he would continue working with EU Special Envoy for Dialogue Miroslav Lajcak to restart the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, but noted that so-called Kosovo is showing "more unwillingness to participate in that."
"I welcome Serbia's readiness to participate in the dialogue and I want to make it clear to Kosovo that the dialogue exists not only for Kosovo, but because it is crucial in making progress on the EU path," Borrell said when asked if there is an EU instrument to get Pristina back to the negotiating table.
He said that he would continue preparations with the EU special envoy for the dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, in order to renewal of the talks in Brussels, but only if both sides are ready to agree on positive results, and show results.
"We will work with Lajcak on that, especially regarding Kosovo, which is showing more unwillingness to participate in that," said Borrell.
He reiterated that Lajcak will first go to Kosovo with the US representative next week, in order to advocate in favor of resuming the dialogue.
