Jevrosimovic: "They tried all the time to drag Novak through the mud, this will only strengthen him"
The president of the Athletics Federation of Serbia, Veselin Jevrosimovic, commented on the current situation with the world's best tennis player, Novak Djokovic, and said that Nole went to Australia only to play sports.
"I made my comment on Twitter, I think it's a great disgrace for the state of Australia, it's a great disgrace for the International Tennis Federation, for the ATP, because Novak went there only to play sports. And he was invited there. I am a friend of both Novak and his family, I have never heard from them that Novak is an antivaxxer and that he promotes and advocates a campaign against vaccination. He simply got Covid when there were no vaccines, he had the antibodies, doctors probably advised him for as long as he does - which is what doctors are now saying - if you have a large number of antibodies, don't get vaccinated, wait for the antibodies to drop. If anyone takes care about their health, it is Novak Djokovic, he should be an example to everyone," said Jevrosimovic, and then continued:
"They tried all the time to drag Novak through the mud, but they forgot one thing. To become a champion, you have already been in the mud many times, and champions rise from that mud even stronger and better, I have no doubt that this will strengthen Novak even more, that he will quickly show them that he is the true number one in every sense."
Jevrosimovic confirmed that he has never heard a single antivaxxer word from the Djokovic family.
"They labeled him as antivaxxer, which he really is not, we sat and talked many times, I never heard that from him, nor from his father, mother and brothers. He met all conditions, they changed the law during that flight. When he landed, he landed according to some fictional law. The very way he was treated - because, he didn't arrive in a rubber boat, he did not ask for asylum or for passport, he came under the conditions that were guaranteed to him. I am sure that he would not have departed had he known about the (new) conditions, as well as that he would not have walked around Serbia if he knew that he had Covid. He's just not like that. I am sorry that abroad they want to present him and condemn him for what he is not, and the background of the whole story is that he is on the verge of becoming one of the eternal ones. He is one, let's make it clear, but they are trying in every way to trip him up and prevent him from winning another title," said the president of the Athletics Federation, and then compared this case with the upcoming World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade.
"I just want to say, we also have our conditions under which athletes will be able to come and participate, but we will show that we are much better people than they have been towards our Novak," Jevrosimovic concluded.
