The meeting of the coronavirus Crisis HQ will be held tomorrow starting 3 pm, and apart from a decision regarding schools, despite the fact that Serbia is breaking records of new daily Covid cases, this body's members are skeptical that new, stricter measures will be adopted, Telegraf.rs has learned.

As Telegraf.rs has learned from the Crisis HQ, the medical part will again demand to make Covid passes mandatory in hospitality venues around the clock, shorten their opening hours, and reduce the number of people allowed indoors.

However, apart from the fact that a decision on schools will be made, they are skeptical about everything else.

"Most likely, a decision will be made to start the second semester as planned, on January 24, meaning that the winter break won't be extended. Children up to fifth grade will have combined classes, while others and high school students will attend online classes," our source said.

The meeting will first analyze the epidemiological situation, which has not been good at all since the beginning of the year. There are crowds of people in front of Covid clinics, while the number of transports to Covid hospitals is slowly increasing. This is seen in emergency service's reports about inter-clinical transport.

Tonight is Serbian New Year's Eve, but celebrations are slowly being canceled by various towns, and as we have learned, what may happen in the future is that local communities will be tacitly authorized to cancel outdoor events.

"As for other measures, they have been needed for a long time, and we will see if they will be accepted," said our source.

Last night, President Aleksandar Vucic stated that it is impossible to stop Omicron, but that the country has done everything necessary to suppress the coronavirus epidemic.

"We are walking a fine line all the time in making decisions for our country to be successful. We have provided hospitals, built the type that no one in Europe has built. We increased salaries of doctors and nurses. We were the first in Europe to provide enough vaccines."

"Serbian New Year celebrations have been canceled," Vucic stressed and added that members of the Crisis HQ are heroes who endured every whim and nervous reaction, and said that he agrees with the epidemiological measures they have brought.

"Who's been blaming Pelemis, Tiodorovic, Kon... We made decisions to protect our people from a disease that was unknown. Don't forget, when we talk about hypocrisy... that the most senseless demonstrations broke out in July because of the measures I only announced, that was the reason."

According to the latest data from yesterday at 3 pm, coronavirus was confirmed in 12,877 more people in Serbia. The record was broken on Tuesday, January 12, when Serbia had 13,693 new cases in 24 hours.

The Omicron strain has become dominant in Serbia, and Delta is still present as well.
