"SPS will support Vucic as joint candidate in presidential elections"
The leader of the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS), Ivica Dacic, says that he trusts President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic when he says that he will step down as the leader of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) this year.
In an interview for Nedeljnik, Dacic said that, unlike former President Boris Tadic, who openly said that he did not intend to give up the leadership of his party, Vucic announced his resignation from the first day he became head of state.
"And he will do that already this year, that's what he announced," said Dacic.
Asked to comment on some being suspicions that Vucic will actually resign as SNS president, Dacic said:
"You don't have to, I believe him. After all, how a president performs his duties and whether people trust them is easily checked in elections, and Vucic is a convincing winner."
Dacic said that the SPS will support Vucic as a joint candidate in the presidential elections, but that they will still discuss whether to run with different lists or together.
