Ivica Dacic tells Telegraf.rs: Adriana Lima doesn't have Serbian passport! She never did one thing
During his political career, President of the National Assembly of Serbia Ivica Dacic also held the office of interior minister.
During that mandate in 2009, he hosted Brazilian model Adriana Lima and well known Serbian basketball player Marko Jaric at the Federation Palace.
On that occasion, Adriana expressed her wish to obtain Serbian citizenship, which Dacic accepted, and he offered that the Interior Ministry issue her personal documents under an accelerated procedure.
However, Ivica now reveals for Telegraf Jetset that Adriana, in fact, never received a Serbian passport.
"Marko was there, he brought her. I knew Marko Jaric and his father from before. Someone informed me that she would like to come, to see how she could receive our citizenship. I didn't hand her a passport, but we spoke and agreed to make that happen. However, some procedure is needed for that, she was pregnant and she needed to submit some papers to us. She is Brazilian," Ivica recalled.
"We can do that, the state of Serbia has the right to accept someone into citizenship regardless of whether that person is eligible or not. Eligibility means being of Serbian origin, and you can also give someone citizenship based on merit. She was a world famous name and, I remember, Tadic was president at the time and he was visiting France. Sarkozy was president then. In the middle of that visit, I received Adriana Lima and Marko Jaric, and can you imagine, that news was a hundred times more watched than the (president's) visit!
They call me from Tadic's office and ask, 'Why did you receive them today?' I had nothing to do with it, I just received them and I couldn't even imagine that it would resonate like that. It was just news released without an announcement, but there you go," said Ivica and added that the idea about the passport was never realized.
"She didn't see it through. I joked with them, I told them, 'listen, you have to stay married for at least four and a half years'. But she did not fill out the forms. You cannot give citizenship to someone without that person even filling out the paperwork," Dacic explained for Telegraf Jetset.
"She doesn't have our passport at all, she didn't get the citizenship, and she didn't get it because she didn't fill out the paperwork. She doesn't have a Serbian passport, but she did visit me. We agreed to do all that, but, she was pregnant and maybe had other obligations," Ivica concluded.
