It's official: Djokovic is No. 1 seed for Australian Open

The world's best tennis player, Novak Djokovic, will be the No. 1 seed for this year's Australian Open, organizers have announced.

The first Grand Slam of the season starts on January 17, and organizers officially confirmed 32 leading players in both competitions this Tuesday.

The Serbian tennis player is followed by Daniil Medvedev (Russia), Alexander Zverev (Germany), Stefanos Tsitsipas (Greece), and Andrei Rublev (Russia), while Spain's Rafael Nadal is seeded sixth.

In the women's competition, Australian Ashleigh Barty is seeded first, followed by Aryna Sabalenka (Belarus), Garbine Muguruza (Spain), Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic), Maria Sakjari (Greece), Anett Kontaveit (Estonia).

The official draw for the Australian Open is scheduled for January 13.
