Large number of doctors and medical staff infected: "We are preparing for this scenario as well"

A large number of doctors, nurses, technicians and other staff are now infected with Covid, which threatens to jeopardize the work process in health institutions, the director of the University Clinical Center of Serbia Milika Asanin said today.

He told TV Pink that the big problem for the healthcare system is that most of the capacity has been redirected to the Covid hospital in Batajnica, where 339 patients are currently being treated, 50 of whom are in intensive care.

According to Asanin, that is twice the number of hospitalized people compared to September and October 2021, but he stressed that the Infectious Diseases Clinic now records an enormous increase in examinations - 200 to 250 in one day.

However, Asanin also said that the number of hospital admissions is relatively small, considering the large number of new cases.

"We are also preparing for the scenario of an increasing number of hospitalizations," he said and stressed that the state has done everything and provided innovative antiviral drugs, which have the best effect if used during the first days of infection.
