Mt. Besna Kobila is under snow for 9 months a year: Beauty of untouched nature in southern Serbia
In the southern part of Serbia, not far from Vranje, is the mountain Besna Kobila, which is especially beloved by fans of winter sports.
The highest peak is located at 1,922 meters above sea level and bears the same name as the mountain, while the other peaks are Suplji Pad (1,862 meters), Musul (1,777 meters) and Mecit (1,587 meters).
There are no larger settlements on the mountain itself, while there are several villages at its foot with only a few hundred inhabitants.
Unlike most other mountains in Serbia, Besna Kobila is not subordinated to the needs of tourists who are used to enjoying comforts during their vacation.
For some, this might remind them of the famous saying, "the further south you go, the sadder it gets."
But true lovers of untouched nature will find exactly what they need on Besna Kobila - fresh and clean mountain air, the "Heavenly Way" trail that passes over pastures, and snow that stays here for nine months a year.
Besna Kobila is also an ideal destination for summer vacation, when the slopes are covered in mountain flowers and blueberry bushes. In that season, most visitors are those who enjoy cycling, hiking and walking.
