Vucic on burning of Serbian flags in Tirana: Neither Serbian nor Albanian state will tolerate this

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic commented on last night's protest in Tirana against the Open Balkan initiative and his arrival in Albania, when the Serbian flag was set on fire, stressing that a good reaction from the Albanian state followed, Prime Minister Edi Rama condemned it, and the perpetrators got arrested.

"We heard good messages from the summit, first of all from Rama. He immediately condemned it (the protest), people who committed criminal acts were arrested. Someone tried to take it (Serbian flag) down, then tore it, someone else burned the flag of Serbia... Like we reacted (against it) in Serbia when a similar thing happened," said Vucic.

He said that these are good messages - that neither the Serbian nor the Albanian state will tolerate such things.

"That is important, and whether you will always have five, 10 or 50 extremists... you always will, but the state must react," Vucic was clear.

He added that he does not understand why somebody is bothered by another's flag, but that it is something that, it seems, we have to get used to.

He also pointed out that last night's protest in Tirana had something to do with the conflict within the opposition Democratic Party there, between Sali Berisha and Lulzim Basha.

When asked about the involvement of Kosovo politicians, Vucic said that they are doing their job, and their job seems to be to make everything they say be against Serbia.

"I believe that one day, they will understand that it is more important to work for the interest of citizens, and not simply against someone," said Vucic.
