Magical beauty of the Danube near Golubac: Many call this area "the Serbian sea"
When the Danube calms its flow near Golubac and becomes flat like glass, it will rain within half an hour, at the longest.
This "language of nature" is interpreted not only by the older residents of Golubac, but also by tourist guides who work in eastern Serbia, and by fishermen who like to spend time on the biggest river in our country.
Although, thanks to the restored Golubac Fortress, this part of eastern Serbia is most attractive to visitors from spring to fall, there are tourists there even when in winter, when thick layers of ice cover the banks of the Danube.
Then, according to a legend that is retold in this area, dragons created from carp older than 200 years appear from the endless blue. The story says that those who see a dragon emerging from the Danube near Golubac, will enjoy good health and longevity.
It is near Golubac that the Danube is the widest - as much as six and a half kilometers. That is why it is not surprising that many who come to Golubac for the first time are under the impression that they are standing at a sea shore.
Tourists most often compare this part of Serbia with the Bay of Kotor, both because of the blue water, and because of natural features reminiscent of landscapes in coastal postcards...
