Security cameras have filmed a black panther roaming the fields in the area of Kiskunhalas, a town just 40 kilometers from Subotica in northern Serbia.

The Hungarian police have been searching for the animal for days. It is believed the panther escaped after it was kept in captivity.

Cameras filmed the panther not far from a construction site on the outskirts of Kiskunhalas. Mayor Robert Fulop said that the video was made on December 8.

Experts have stressed that this dangerous animal feeds on cats, dogs and small livestock, hides easily and is unpredictable.

"It is believed that it lived in captivity, among people, and it can cover long distances," said a police statement.

The Hungarian police asked all citizens living in the area to be vigilant and to inform their relatives in the surrounding villages to pay attention and report if they see a panther.
