The police could be at the protests, but only to prevent roadblocks, because it is a legitimate job of the police, said Serbian PM Ana Brnabic.

She added that it would not be right for the police to stand by and silently watch the laws of Serbia being violated and all other citizens being harassed.

Answering a journalist's question, Brnabic stated that if the police prevented gatherings, there would be reports about terror in Serbia and bans on democratic gatherings.

"The police will act according to best European practice and will let people protest," said Brnabic and asked the people who are protesting not to physically clash with other citizens because they will be sanctioned for that.

She said she could not believe that environmentalists were the ones beating people up with using metal bars and banners.

"I know about 'Greenpeace' people who have non-violent protests, they chain themselves to trees. So far, I have not seen environmentalists fighting anywhere in the world. Only in Serbia. We will try to protect public order and peace, and those who want to protest can do so," said Brnabic.
