Brnabic meets with head of Pontifical Academy for Life: "No open issues between Serbia and Holy See"
In a conversation with President of the Pontifical Academy for Life and Grand Chancellor of the John Paul II Pontifical Theological Institute for Marriage and Family Sciences Monsignor Vincenzo Paglia, Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said that relations between Serbia and the Holy See are stable and characterized by mutual respect and esteem.
The prime minister was especially grateful for the Holy See's support for stability and prosperity of the Western Balkans, and the interest it expresses in the current situation in the region.
As the prime minister stressed, one of the basic priorities of Serbia is a stable and well-connected region, which will allow for a better standard of living and perspective for its citizens. In that sense, she assessed, the Open Balkans initiative also makes a contribution, which is complementary with all other regional initiatives and is the best path towards stability of the region.
Stating that dialogue, cooperation and strengthening of ties in the region is the only path to peace and stability, Monsignor Paglia stressed that the Holy See also supports these efforts in Serbia, which, according to him, is the pillar of the Western Balkans.
He assessed that the European perspective is important both for Serbia and for the entire region. As he pointed out, Serbia is a historical and geographical part of Europe and he expressed confidence that the integration process will accelerate going forward.
Prime Minister Brnabic thanked the Holy See for its principled position on the issue of Kosovo and Metohija, based on respect for international law. She stressed the necessity of implementation of the Brussels Agreement and the establishment of the Community of Serb Municipalities.
Vincenzo Paglia underlined that ties between Italy and the Western Balkans have lasted for centuries and are built on respect and appreciation, and that the Holy See's vision is to support the region in achieving the best possible integration, respecting tradition and diversity.
He stressed that the Holy See is committed to improving relations with Serbia, and that the Community of Sant'Egidio, while insisting on inter-faith dialogue, will continue to support regional development and stability.
