Starting today until December 12, members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Traffic Police Administration, will be conducing an international campaign of intensified traffic control, aimed at detecting violations of driving under the influence of alcohol and psychoactive substances.

This international operation will start today in 30 European countries that are members of ROADPOL - the European road policing network, the Ministry of the Interior announced.

During the implementation of the operation, the traffic police will use all available breathalyzers each day, as well as devices checking for presence of psychoactive substances.

Drivers under the influence of alcohol participate in one in five fatal accidents in Serbia, while the number of these violations is constantly increasing.

Since the beginning of the year, police officers have excluded about 45,000 drivers from traffic for driving under the influence of alcohol and about 1,400 drivers for driving under the influence of psychoactive substances, the Ministry of the Interior said.
