Do you know where the Serbian mountain Rujno is? Many vacation there without knowing its old name
Whether it is spring, summer, fall or winter, many domestic and foreign tourists like to go to this beautiful Serbian mountain which was called Rujno in medieval times.
In some writings the name Rujan is mentioned, and it comes from the shrub ruj (Latin name Rhus cotynus), which was used in ancient times for tanning and dyeing leather.
In Turkish books from the 15th and the 16th century, the name Rujni Batra is mentioned, which means Rujno Mountain, or Rujno Hill.
And it is Mt. Zlatibor, one of the most visited mountains in Serbia, which has 12 peaks higher than 1,000 meters - Tornik, Brijac, Cigota, Cuker, Konjoder, Ljuljas, Vijogor, Kobilja Glava, Gradina, Jelova Gora, Gruda and Crni Vrh.
The combination of mountain and sea climate makes the so-called wind rose in this part of Serbia a source of health for many. This was known in the 17th century, when Zlatibor was visited by the rich. However, a real tourist boom began with the arrival of King of Serbia Aleksandar Obrenovic, who came to Kraljeva Voda in 1893.
The Karadjordjevics did not bypass Zlatibor either, additionally contributing to the fact that the mountain, the origin of whose current name is not yet known, began to grow as a tourist center. After 1905, when King Petar Karadjordjevic came to Zlatibor, a hotel, a villa and a bakery sprang up on this Serbian mountain beauty.
Today, many will say that there is a myriad tourist facilities on Zlatibor. What, however, no one can dispute is that Zlatibor is the "point of intersection" when we drive to the Adriatic Sea, but also a tourist center where we like to spend the winter.
Numerous ski trails, a gondola that has been declared the largest panoramic gondola in the world, hotels, apartments, restaurants, cafes, delicious food and various tourist facilities make Zlatibor one of the most desirable destinations in Serbia not only for domestic but also for foreign tourists.
