Brnabic: Crisis HQ meets next week, we'll see what the best measures will be regarding Covid passes
Ana Brnabic has said that Covid passes passes can be a motivation, but not the only solution in the long run in combating the epidemic. She pointed out that citizens also resort to non-compliance with the measures, but also that the Covid pass has motivated young people to get vaccinated more.
Asked whether the Covid pass (enforcement) would be extended, Brnabic said that it depends on the decision of the Crisis HQ.
"We will have a meeting of the Crisis HQ next week, we will see what the best possible measures will be regarding the Covid pass. We have reduced the amount of abuse and we have learned from other countries in the European Union. I looked at the example of France, where they only have the QR code, and then we tried to see how the Covid pass with the personal documents would work, for that we needed a special decision of the Government, so we passed it," said Brnabic.
"We want to do something useful, so that it is not only marketing, but also useful, we have decided to extend it to (be enforced starting) 8 pm and how we will control it. We have measures that have never been suspended, and that is wearing masks indoors. I am not in favor of introducing marketing measures," Brnabic explained and added that people often resort to abuse and disrespect of the measures:
"We have examples where in shopping malls, people enter with a mask, and then take it off."
As for the representatives of the Student Parliament, just let them call, they will have the support of the Government of Serbia, she said.
Brnabic added that the government was monitoring the situation, hour by hour, by all age categories, and by all local governments, to see what else can be done.
It turned out that Covid passes was the measure that most motivates young people to get vaccinated.
"Before the introduction of Covid passes, in the age group of 18 to 30 we had an average of 600 vaccinated per day.
When we introduced the Covid pass, valid from 10 pm, that number went to 1,500 per day, and when we moved it to 8 pm, it rose to 2,000 per day."
We have to do something new, and say that Covid passes passes are a motivation, but they are not the only solution in the long run."
