EU to begin recognizing Covid certificates issued in Serbia starting tomorrow

The European Union has adopted a decision on recognition of digital Covid certificates issued in Serbia, that will take effect tomorrow.

The European Commission (EC) announced today that it had adopted a decision recognizing Covid certificates issued in Serbia and is making them equivalent to the EU digital Covid certificate.

"This decision will enter into force on November 16," it has been announced by the Commission.

The EC stated that Serbia will now be connected to the EU system of digital Covid certificates and that its certificates will be recognized under the same conditions as those issued by EU member states.

"The Commission has done technical tests that showed that the certificates of vaccination, testing and recovery from Covid-19 issued by the Republic of Serbia are in line with the 'Digital Green Certificate' system and that verification of authenticity, validity and integrity of the certificate is possible. The Commission also confirmed that the certificates on vaccination, testing and recovery from Covid-19 issued by the Republic of Serbia are in line with the 'Digital Green Certificate' system and contain the necessary data," said the EC.

At the same time, Serbia accepted the EU Covid certificate for travel from the EU to our country.

They stress in Brussels that this represents yet more proof of the continuation of efforts aimed at strengthening passengers's trust and safe travel inside and outside the EU.

"As we stood by our partners in the fight against the pandemic, we continue to work together on safe reopening," said EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi.

The decision on recognition of Covid certificates by the EU has so far been adopted for 49 countries, 22 of which are outside the EU.

Along with Serbia, when it comes to the Western Balkans region, the EU also recognizes certificates issued in Albania and North Macedonia.
