Numerous Serbian villages that have managed to preserve their authenticity are located in the area of the Gledic Mountains. This mountain range, whose highest peak Samar is located at 922 meters above sea level, boasts numerous watercourses and amazing landscapes.

Thanks to it being relatively difficult to reach, houses older than a century can be seen in certain villages between Trstenik and Kragujevac. The medieval Orthodox monasteries of Ljubostinja and Kalenic are also located in the area of these mountains.

It is considered that in the old days, the Carigradski (Constantinople) Road passed near the Gledic Mountains.

Second tallest mountain in Sumadija

With the Cvijic Peak, which is located at 1,132 meters above sea level, the mountain of Rudnik is considered the tallest in the whole of Sumadija. Immediately behind it is the peak of Samar, which belongs to the range of the Gledic Mountains.

And not only are these mountains known for their many rivers, sources of drinking water and pastures, but this is also an area rich in numerous ores. Nature lovers and those who prefer an active vacation can enjoy that here.

Interesting facts about Gledic Mountains

One of perhaps the most unusual natural phenomena not only in Sumadija, but also in our country, is located in this area. More precisely, in the area between the village of Zupanjevac and the medieval monastery of Kalenic.

The reason why this place is informally called "the Speaking Water" is extremely logical. Namely, in this place you can hear the water bubbling very deep underground. Precisely because it resembles human speech, the people call that place the Speaking Water.

As we reported earlier this year, Kragujevac resident Aleksandar Saric is credited with celebrating the Gledic Mountains. After winning a Microsoft competition, a photo of Gledic Mountains was chosen as one of the backgrounds for desktop screens.

As many as 40 water sources that are considered clean and fit to drink from are located in the area of the Kragujevac village of Dulene. And not only that. In this mountain village there is also a gorge on the River Dulenka, which surrounds the Gledic Mountains. It is considered to be of the deepest and longest in the whole country.

The area of the village of Gledic, after which these mountains near Kragujevac are named, also has a village inn considered to be older than a century.
